New Delhi:Jasu Barad, a sitting Congress MLA in Gujarat, on Monday passed away at a private hospital in Ahmedabad following a prolong illness.

He was 60.

Barad represented the Talala constituency in Gir-Somnath district. “The MLA was admitted to SIMS Hospital for the treatment of cancer where he passed away,” Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said. “Barad was unwell since long due to various other ailments,” he added. Barad won the first Assembly election in 1990 from Somnath constituency. Later, he was elected twice from the Talala Assembly seat in 1995 and 1998. Between 1991 and 1995, he was the minister of state for water resources and water supply in the Congress-led Gujarat government. –PTI
