Pak troops violate border ceasefire 5 times

JAMMU: Violating the border ceasefire five times in 24 hours, Pakistan troops have pounded Indian military and civilian positions in 10 areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region, provoking retaliation.

One jawan is reported to have suffered minor injuries in the action by Pakistani troops who violated the ceasefire on the LoC nine times over the past two days.

The Pakistani troops resorted to shelling of mortar bombs and small and automatic weapons in Jhangar, Kalsian, Makri in Noushera sector of Rajouri district and Gigriyal, Platan, Damanu, Channi and Palanwala areas of Pallanwala sector of Jammu district and Balnoi, Krishnagati in Poonch district. Firing and shelling along LoC was reported from Balnoi and Krishnagati sector in Poonch district this evening, defence and police officials said. “Pakistan troops violated ceasefire and resorted to firing in Pallanwala sector of Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu district from 1.35 PM this afternoon,” PRO Defence Col Manish Mehta said. Earlier in the morning, Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing in three areas of Noushera Rajouri district from 0515 hours today, he said. Pak troops targeted Jhangar, Kalsian, Makri sub-sectors of Noushera belt. They fired mortar bombs, automatic weapons and small arms, he said. Yesterday, the Pakistani troops had violated ceasefire four times and restored to heavy firing and mortar shelling in Saujian, Shahpur-Kerni, Mandi and KG sectors in Poonch district, where 5 civilian were injured and several shops burnt down.—PTI
