Seven, including four of a family, die in Ambala road mishap

Seven persons including four of a family died at the spot whereas 10 others sustained severe injuries in a road accident near Drive In 22 Resort on Ambala Chandigarh highway near Ambala City on December 28-29 night.

An unidentified vehicle suspected a Volvo bus had hit two Tavera cars in which 19 persons including women and their children of families from Chandigarh were on a three days trip to Varindavan left at around 11.30pm on December 28 night and the mishap took place at around 12.40am.

Among died included drivers of both cars. Among those arrived at the spot during night was a fruit seller Hari Persad a resident of village Kakru selling fruits on the highway in day times and living in a tent on the roadside along with family during night.

The mishap took place when both cars  were standing on the road side due to diesel leaking from a car in the dark and inmates in the vehicles were sleeping.

All injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared seven including both drivers died.The injured were sent to civil hospital when 8 of them stated serious were referred to GH-32 Chandigarh by the doctors of civil hospital and remaining injured were admitted in the hospital.

Among those died were identified as Asha Rani (46), Kaqvita Kapoor (36) wife of Rajesh Kapoor a trader at Chandigarh,her daughters Ranjana (18), Harshita (9) and son Piyush (5).

Those stated serious referred to  Chandigarh were identified as Sunita, Renuka and Palak. The drivers of both Tavera cars bearing registration numbers HR68-5015 and CH-04A-5002 Manoj (42) and Suresh (43) also succumbed o their injuries at the spot and their bopdies were found lying in pool of blood at a distance.

The driver of vehicle hit both cars from behind and dragged up to 20 feet distance managed to flee along with the vehicle. All victims involved in mishap were residents of Chandigarh.

According SP Ambala Aastha Modi, the vehicle hit car was suspected a Volvo bus as police recovered a Volvo bumper and a light at the spot in the morning and police is trying for the arrest of driver of the vehicle on the basis of footage of CCTV camera at the Toll Plaza between Derrabassi and Lalru.
