Panchkula (Satish Handa):In view of increasing cases of honour killing by the family members of young couples married without their consent large number of honour killing cases are reported in Haryana state. In the hearing of a recent case Punjab and Haryana High Court in a letter to Director General Police Haryana Manoj Yadav demanded detail of all such cases in the state. Yadav in a letter to Punjab and Haryana High Court submitted detail of as many as 13 honour killing cases where the couple married against the wishes of their family presently under investigation or under trial pending in the courts in Haryana state,
According to report submitted by police headquarter in the state at Panchkula, the hearing of five cases under trial in various courts in the state, challan has already been submitted to courts against accused in another five cases and charges have yet to be framed against accused. According to the report, investigation is going on in two cases under trial court has already sentenced imprisonment to the accused involved in crime in two cases and in a case the alleged accused is still absconding and police is trying for the arrest.
In reply submitted to Punjab and Haryana High Court, DGP Haryana stated that police is providing complete protection to the couples married without the consent of their family at safe houses under police protection in every district, besides providing security to affected families as well as witnesses in such cases treated under identified crimes not as hard core crimes and Deputy Commissioner of the district constitutes a committee to deal such cases investigated by an officer of DSP rank under the supervision o SP of the district.
