Indian national dies in Pakistan jail

Attari (Amritsar) May 3 The body of an Indian national identified as Vipan Kumar (38) son of Gurdas Ram who died in the Pakistani jail  has been repatriated to India here today. The body was handed over by the Pakistani Rangers to Border Security Force ( BSF) at Joint Check Post of Attari.

According to an officer at Attari, Vipan Kumar around ten years back inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan as he was mentally unstable and that time his age was around 27. Immediately after, the missing report was lodged in the police station Una district of Himachal Pradesh by his family members.

Protocol officer said that Vipan Kumar was a resident of Nangal  Jeetpur area of Una district of Himachal. The moment he had crossed over to Pakistan was nabbed by the Pakistan Authorities and lodged to Kotlakhpat Rai Jail in Lahore.

Officer said that  according to his family members who were here at Attari border to receive the body, Vipan Kumar was mentally unstable and crossed the Indo-Pak border inadvertently.

Officer said that Naib Tehsildar from Una Mr. Rajan Sharma along with Chiranji Lal brother of Vipan Kumar were here at Attari border to receive the body.

Officer said that the body of Vipan Kumar was dispatched to Una  (Nangal)  in a special ambulance along with police security besides Pilot Jeep.

Officer  said that the cause of death was not yet clear as he was coming sick from the last few weeks and was under treatment in the Jinah hospital of Lahore in Pakistan where he breathed his last on  April-2-2023. It  took around one month to complete documentation to bring the body from Pakistan to India.
