Tarn Taran AAP MLA dies of cancer

Amritsar: Tarn Taran MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal (66) died  in the  hospital on Friday. He had been suffering from cancer for more than three years.

Before joining politics, Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, an eye specialist, retired from the Health Department, was seen in Tarn Taran in many roles — a social reformer, sports promoter and environmentalist.

He was survived by his wife and two children ( son and daughter) both by profession are doctors. His wife also retired from the Punjab Education Department.

He was elected first time MLA from the Tarn Taran Assembly constituency on AAP ticket in the previous state assembly elections in the year of 2022.  He had joined the AAP just two years before the state legislative assembly elections.

Before joining AAP, Dr. Sohal  was in touch with the masses under the banner of the Vikas Manch Punjab, Parents Association and Indian Medical Association (IMA) He was also known as social worker in his area.

He had contested the SGPC election unsuccessfully around two decades ago at that time he was in service.  He had also worked for the People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) led by Manpreet Singh Badal.  After his retirement from the Health department as an eye specialist, he used to treat patients free of cost.
