New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Syed Sadatullah Husaini has expressed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating political, social, and security situation in Bangladesh, urging those currently exercising authority to act with responsibility, restraint, and an unequivocal commitment to democratic principles in order to restore peace, stability, and public confidence.

In a statement to the media, Syed Sadatullah Husaini said that the unfolding developments in Bangladesh are pushing the country towards prolonged instability and violence. The weakening of law and order has created space for miscreants to exploit the situation, resulting in attacks on individuals, properties, and institutions. He strongly condemned the recent lynching of a minority citizen in Bangladesh following the spread of rumours, describing the incident as tragic, reprehensible, and deeply alarming.

“Such acts, wherever they occur, are morally indefensible, legally criminal, and socially corrosive. No allegation, no emotion, and no political situation can ever justify mob violence or the taking of human life,” he said.

Syed Sadatullah Husaini emphasised that the protection of minorities is a fundamental test of any government’s moral credibility and constitutional legitimacy. He called upon the authorities in Bangladesh to ensure the safety and dignity of minority communities, protect places of worship, and convey an unambiguous message that violence, discrimination, and vigilantism will not be tolerated.

He welcomed reports of ordinary citizens and civil society groups stepping forward to protect vulnerable communities, stating that such public solidarity reflects the conscience of society and plays a vital role in safeguarding social harmony.

Warning against elements that exploit sensitive religious issues to spread fear, hatred, and unrest, he urged the Bangladesh government, law enforcement agencies, and civil administration to act swiftly and decisively against those inciting violence. He stressed the importance of countering rumours with verified information in a timely and transparent manner, noting that delays in justice only embolden violent actors and erode public trust in democratic and legal institutions. He also welcomed the condemnation issued by the interim government of Bangladesh and the arrests made so far, underscoring that such crimes demand firm and impartial action to clearly signal that mob violence will not be condoned.
