Infra, Health and EV push anchor Delhi govt’s one-year report card

New Delhi: Citing seven lakh Ayushman beneficiaries, 150 kilometres of newly built roads and a target of 4,000 electric buses, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday outlined the Delhi government’s first-year performance, framing it as a shift toward outcome-based governance.

Releasing a detailed report card at the Delhi Secretariat, Gupta said the administration had focused on measurable delivery across welfare, health, infrastructure and environment, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India.

Describing the government’s working style as “less paperwork, more work”, she said poor households and basic services were placed at the centre of planning decisions after the BJP assumed office in the national capital.

Welfare focus

Gupta said implementation of the Ayushman health scheme in Delhi was approved in the first Cabinet meeting, with around seven lakh residents benefiting so far.

To provide affordable meals to low-income groups, 70 Atal Canteens have been made operational, serving nearly 70,000 people daily, she said.

The government has allocated Rs 700 crore for the development of jhuggi clusters, with allotment of already-constructed flats initiated for 13,000 economically weaker families in the first phase. Additionally, 500 childcare centres have been opened to support children of labourers.

Health infrastructure push

In the health sector, Gupta said 370 Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities have been opened within a year, with a target to expand the network to 1,100 centres in 2024.

New blocks in five government hospitals have started functioning, and equipment installation is underway to strengthen diagnostic and treatment services, she said. The government has also added 53 ambulances to improve emergency response and is working to address shortages of doctors and nurses.

Roads, water and urban works

On infrastructure, the chief minister said 150 kilometres of roads have been completed so far, with another 400 kilometres planned before the monsoon.

The Nand Nagri flyover has been opened to traffic, while Barapullah Phase-3 is targeted for completion by June. The Mukarba underpass is expected to open by March, and flyover projects are planned at Modi Mill and Savitri Cinema.

Gupta said 833 kilometres of new water pipelines have been cleared to improve supply, alongside replacement of ageing sewer lines and upgrades to water treatment plants. A water bill relief scheme has benefited 3.52 lakh consumers, she added.

The Delhi Drainage Master Plan is being implemented to tackle waterlogging, including construction of 40 foot-over bridges to improve pedestrian safety.

EV push and green measures

Linking transport and pollution control, Gupta said the government plans to add 4,000 electric buses to the city’s fleet and set up around 9,000 charging stations. A new EV policy is under preparation.

The administration also plans to plant 35 lakh trees this year as part of its environmental strategy.

Anniversary observance

On the government’s first anniversary, Gupta visited the Marghat Wale Hanuman Mandir and offered prayers, seeking peace and prosperity for Delhi residents.

She said the mandate given to the BJP would be treated as a responsibility to deliver results and reiterated the long-term goal of achieving “Developed Delhi 2047”, adding that performance-based assessment would continue to guide governance decisions.
