Bangalore: In a powerful move to uplift the futures of lakhs of young girls across India, the Azim Premji Foundation has announced a scholarship program that promises to transform the lives of up to 2.5 lakh girl students in the academic year 2025–26.
The initiative, rooted in compassion and a deep commitment to equity, is a lifeline for girls from marginalized communities who have completed their Class 10 and 12 in government schools and have secured admission in a recognized degree or diploma program. The Azim Premji Scholarship offers Rs 30,000 per year, disbursed directly into the student’s bank account in two installments annually. This support continues throughout the duration of their course—whether it’s a 3-year B.A., a 4-year B.Sc. Nursing, or a 2-year diploma.
“Higher education doesn’t just change a resume—it changes a life,” says Anurag Behar, CEO of Azim Premji Foundation. “Even today, many girls are forced to give up their dreams due to financial constraints and societal pressures. This scholarship is about giving them a real choice.”
The Foundation piloted this initiative in 2024–25 in select districts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand, impacting over 25,000 girl students in just its first cycle. For many recipients, this was not just financial aid—it was validation that their dreams matter.
