Chandigarh: The state government has become more strict regarding sex ratio in Haryana. Preparations are underway to take action against the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of six districts who are unable to improve the sex ratio. The CMOs of Ambala, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Karnal, Sirsa and Palwal have been asked the reason for not being able to achieve the expected improvement in sex ratio. Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department Sudhir Rajpal said in the weekly meeting of the State Task Force on Tuesday that the Chief Medical Officers who are lax in improving sex ratio will be called in a separate meeting and asked for their answers. It was told in the meeting that two ASHA workers have been removed from the job for not doing their work sincerely. Similarly, in Panchkula, an ASHA worker has been removed from the job for not monitoring properly in the recent case of death of mother of three girls and pregnant woman.

Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department Sudhir Rajpal also instructed the doctors of the AYUSH department to keep an eye on the illegal sale of MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) kits. They should keep an eye on four villages around them to ensure that no pregnant woman with more than 12 weeks of pregnancy gets an illegal abortion. It is a matter of relief that while the sex ratio was 901 on 31 August last year, the sex ratio in the same period this year has been 907. He said strict action with the help of police should be taken against increasing cases of sale of MTP kits and illegal determination of sex of unborn children of pregnant females in hospitals and ultrasound centres in the district.
