Electricity production from waste polythene

Ambala (Satish Handa): In order to make twin city waste polythene free, district administration has started a new project to produce electricity from waste plastic polythene. According to the scheme, who-so-ever brings waste polythene  offered food grains in equal weight according to choice and the scheme has proved successful when nearly 10 ton polythene garbage collected daily at four collection centres in the town, which is being used to produce electricity at Chanderpur Renewal Power Company  Private Limited at Mullana in Ambala
district. Now the district administration has decided to adopt the system as a pilot project not only to consume waste polythene garbage but also to earn revenue on the sale of electricity as well as meet shortage of power supply.
Government of India has already permitted purchase of electricity produced from biogas but the same could not be implemented properly by private electricity producing companies and industry. According to information, cost of production of each electricity unit from polythene wastes preparing biogas arrives approximately Rs 7 per unit since to prepare electricity from 1.5 ton plastic waste nearly 50 kg wood or crops remain is required to produce each unit electricity.
When talked to the organizer of Chanderpur Renewal Power Company Private Limited Ravi Puri, he said that they are prepared to sell electricity to an industry as well as a private company but they are not prepared to accept these rates. Deputy Commissioner Ambala Ashok Kumar told that waste management funda has proved useful to dispose of waste plastic garbage and make twin city plastic free accumulating in drains as well dumped at places thus polluting the environments.
