Gold worth Rs. 94 Lacs seized at SGRDIA

Amritsar: Acting on a specific intelligence, officers of DRI Amritsar Regional Unit intercepted two passengers in two different cases at SGRDJI  (Shri Guru Ramdas ji International Airport).

In an official statement issued here today, stated that Two different suspected passengers who were trying to import foreign origin assorted gold jewellery illegally by concealing the same in pockets of their cargo trousers, while travelling from Dubai to Amritsar on 15.10.2025. Personal search of both the passengers resulted in recovery of Gold Jewellery weighing 430.440 gms and 396.440 gms having market value of Rs. 48,95,601 and Rs. 45,00,817 respectively, which was found concealed in pockets of cargo trousers worn by them.

Official further informed that the recovered Gold jewellery which was in the shape of chains, bracelets, rings, etc., was seized by DRI under Customs Act. Initial enquiries caused from the passengers revealed that they had tried to smuggle gold jewellery for sale in the retail market in the on-going festive season.

Central Government agencies including DRI are on high alert to avert chances of illegal import of foreign origin Gold or Gold jewellery by the smuggling syndicates who are indulged in such unlawful acts for monetary gains on account of substantial price difference of precious yellow metal in Dubai vis-a-vis in India. This action of DRI will prove to be a major deterrent to gold smugglers in the present scenario when prices of gold are sky-rocketing, he added.
