Al-Falah University is spread over approximately 70 acres and is run by a trust. In 2014, the Haryana government granted it university status. MBBS courses began at the university in 2019. The university also holds minority educational institution status.
The Haryana government will now tighten its grip on Al Falah University (AFU), situated in Faridabad district, has been in the news for allegations of involvement in terrorist activities. Following numerous controversies and complaints, the Haryana government has initiated an investigation into Al Falah University. A committee headed by IAS officer Shyamal Mishra has been formed for the investigation. An official from the Higher Education Department has also been included in the committee. The committee has submitted complaints and other documents related to the college. The committee is thoroughly investigating all aspects, will submit its report to the Haryana government as soon as possible. Only then will the state government be able to make any decision on the university.
Three prominent doctors named in the November 10 Delhi bomb blasts near Red Fort were faculty members at Al Falah University in Faridabad. These included Dr. Shaheen, Dr. Umar, and Dr. Muzammil. The bombings claimed the lives of more than 15 people. Following the controversy, several central agencies launched investigations. Parents of some students also submitted complaints to the Haryana government, alleging suspicious activities, a lack of faculty and a threat to students’ education. Taking cognizance of these complaints, the state government formed a committee. The path to taking action against the university has been cleared. Recently, the Haryana government passed the Private Universities Amendment Bill 2025. The government has also notified the amended rules. Al-Falah School of Humanities & Languages, Al-Falah School of Physical & Molecular Science and Al-Falah School of Social Science. The parents of the children admitted in the University under controversy are worried over the future of their children.
The university was established in 2014 by the Al-Falah Charitable Trust during the Congress rule under Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, through The Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2014. The founder and managing trustee of Al-Falah University, Javed Ahmed Siddiqui, who was alleged convicted for fraud worth Rs 7.5 crore (US$887,109) and sentenced to three years in prison. Information revealed the chancellor allegedly used forged documents, including GPAs of people who had died long before to illegally acquire land in Delhi. Two top Al-Falah officials were found to have prior links with banned organisations SIMI and Jamaat-e-Islami. According to ED sources, the founder was arrested under PMLA for money laundering, forged documents, and fraud linked to the Red Fort blast probe. Police had filed FIRs for multiple IPC sections covering cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and document falsification.
Information also reveals, AFU is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), NAAC, Association of Indian Universities, National Medical Commission (NMC), but since 2025 the university is under investigation or suspension by UGC, NAAC, AIU, NMC, various law enforcement agencies (including police of several states, ED and NIA) for financial irregularities, fraudulent accreditation, terror links, etc. Al-Falah University allegedly displayed outdated or false NAAC accreditation information on its official website, misleading students and regulators. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) reported that the university collected crores in student fees by misrepresenting its accreditation and recognition status. Investigators allege the university collected over Rs 415 crore between 2018–2025 and diverted these funds via affiliated entities for non-educational purposes allegedly to have links to terror financing / extremist organisations. The ED also found alleged links of two senior officials of the Al-Falah group with the banned organisations Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
After the 10 November 2025 car-blast incident near Red Fort Delhi, ED conducted coordinated raids at more than 25 locations linked to Al-Falah University campus, trustee offices, shell-company premises to trace financial records, possible hawala transactions, foreign-fund flows and the money-trail of suspected proceeds of crime, and uncovered a network of nine shell companies, all registered at the same address, linked to the Al-Falah group. Whereas, these shell-companies exhibited no physical presence at declared business premises, negligible utility usage, common phone number/email across firms, lack of statutory filings, overlapping directors or authorized signatories and absence of HR or payroll records. These firms are being examined for possible money-laundering and fund-diversion. Investigation revealed, some individuals employed at Al-Falah University including doctors are among the suspects in the Red Fort blast, and are being probed for alleged participation in a terror module. The ED arrested Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, the founder-chairman of Al-Falah group under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, allegations of financial irregularities, fund diversion, and possible links to suspected terror-financing.
