Health Minister visits Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and Medical College, holds meeting with doctors

Amritsar, August 7 – The medical colleges and hospitals of Punjab will be equipped with all kinds of world-class health facilities for the patients in the near future and the patients will not have to go out of the hospital to avail any health facility, said Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh here on Monday.

He was here to hold a meeting with the administrative officers at Guru Nanak Medical College and Hospital. He said that the health department has not been leaving any stone unturned to realise the dream of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s dream to make Punjabis Hale and hearty.

Citing hospitals as not ordinary government buildings, he said that keeping in mind the needs of the patients, many types of comforts are needed, which requires all the material of best standard.

He instructed the officials that all the hospitals to be built in the future should be centrally air-conditioned to meet the health needs of the patients. Instructing the officials of various departments in Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, including Public Works Department, PSPCL, Punjab Health System Corporation and Public Health Department etc., the Health Minister asked them to appoint junior engineer level officers permanently. Taking cognizance of the dilapidated condition of the TB Hospital, the Health Minister directed to construct a new building in place of the old building and asked to make a blueprint plan from today. Keeping in mind the need for a medical college, the health minister has decided to construct a new administrative block, new houses for doctors, air-conditioning the nursing college, open multi-level parking, extend the blood bank and provide three rooms for doctors, staff and patients in the hospital. He also announced plans to construct canteens.

The Health Minister instructed to complete the building work of the State Cancer Institute by October 31. He also reviewed the progress of construction of the Theater Complex, Examination Hall, New Medical Wards, OT and ICU Complex, Advanced Trauma Center, Pet and Gamma Scat Center etc.

He proposed to build two buildings for the patients and their relatives with provision for sitting, sleeping, bathing and toilet etc.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary Health Mr. Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner Amit Talwar, Principal Rajiv Devgan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Vijay Kumar, Principal of Dental College, Nursing College and District Officers of all the departments working in the hospital were present with him.
