Harjinder Singh Dhmai re-elected SGPC president

Amritsar, November 9 – Harjinder Singh Dhami the sitting president of SGPC once again elected next president for the second time in a row of mini Sikh parliament here today  while defatting his rival candidate BibiJagir  Kaur who had recently raised banner of revolt against her party..

BibiJagirKaur a former SGPC president was recently expelled from the party (SAD) had earlier announced to contest elections against the SAD ( Badal) candidate Dhami.

During the election process out of 146 polled votes Dhami was polled 104 votes whereas BibiJagirKaur was polled 42 votes.

However, rest of the office bearers elected unanimously were Senior Vice President  Baldev Singh Qaimpur (Haryana),  Junior Vice President Avtar Singh Riya,  General Secretary  BhaiGurcharan Singh Grewal.

Whereas, eleven Member Internal Committee who were elected were  Mohan Singh Bangi,  Jarnail Singh Kartarpur, Surjit Singh Tughalwal, Bawa Singh, Gumanpura,  BibiGurinderKaurBholuwal, Gurnam Singh Jassal, Paramjit Singh Khalsa,  Sher Singh Mandwala, Baba Gurpreet Singh Randhawa, Bhupinder Singh Assandh and Malkit Singh Changal.

Talking to media after his victory, Dhami said that it was victory of Sikh community as anti-Sikh forces left no stone to defeat the SAD but the unseen power of the Almighty supported the party.

Blaming the Punjab Government, Haryana Government, Centre Government,  RSS and Chairman National Minority Commission Iqbal
Singh Lalpura, Dhami said they were also behind efforts to defeat SAD but in vain since the party was on strong footing.  He said that anti SAD people telephonically contacted all the SGPC members to support the opposition candidate but it didn’t work.

After their victory in elections, all the SGPC members and eleven Members of Internal Committee along with SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhmai paid obeisance in the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple. Dhami was given siropa after obeisance in the Golden Temple.

In Punjab ShiromaniAkali Dal led by Badals were dominating the SGPC for the past several decades but this time SGPC elections battle was high stake for the SAD president SukhbirBadal. 

However, Party president SukhbirBadal in a statement here said, “I thank Akal Purakh, KhalsaPanth& SGPC members for giving a resounding rebuff to anti Sikh conspirators and their stooges by reposing faith in the SGPC polls today”.

“I also felicitate Harjinder Singh Dhami Sahib and offer him my best wishes to continue to serve Guru KhalsaPanth with renewed devotion, commitment and humility”, said Badal.

“This is a victory of the Panth over forces & rulers out to wreck Sikh quom from within. I appeal to all members, who had been misled, to heed the signal of Guru Sahib & return to the “sharan” of KhalsaPanth”, said Sukhbir.
