Haryana first in the country blocked more than 55000 mobile numbers: DGP

Addressing media persons, Shatrujit Kapoor Director General Police  said that Haryana state is first in the country have blocked more than 55000 mobile phone numbers related to cyber fraud and has saved nearly Rs 66 crore of the people of the state from being cheated till November 30 2023. He said that Haryana police making efforts towards cyber security through cyber police stations in every district across the state, succeeded in arresting 1707 cyber fraudsters and registered 2354 cyber fraud cases. Giving information about this, Director General of Police said that as a result of continuous actions being taken against cyber criminals, it has helped a lot in controlling cyber crimes.

Kapoor said that in order to keep a check on cyber criminals, Haryana Police is organizing cyber workshops everywhere including in educational institutes to bring awareness about such crimes. He said, apart from this, Haryana Police is working towards preventing cyber crime by holding meetings with representatives of financial institutions and trade organizations, including banks so that bank accounts can be frozen as soon as a cyber fraud is reported as such the number of policemen deployed on the cyber helpline number has been increased from 35 to 70.

DGP said that till the end of month Novermber this year the state police has registered 2354 cases regarding cyber crime, out of which 409 were high profile cases. In these cases, the state police has succeeded in arresting 1707 cyber cheats with the amount of fraud in these high profile cases was more than Rs 5 lakh in each case. He said, the cyber team has reported about 59,195 mobile numbers used in cyber fraud in the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, out of which more than 55,933 mobile numbers have been blocked.

Kapoor said that the state police is committed to saving the earnings of the general public. In this direction, 27 police personnel have been appointed as incident managers at the National Cyber Helpline 1930 headquarters located in Panchkula. He told that it is the responsibility of these incident managers that if the fraud reported on helpline registered on 1930, they should immediately contact the nodal officer of the bank where the fraud amount has gone and get the fraud amount frozen, due to this in the month November only this year the State Police has succeeded in saving a record amount of Rs 6.77 crore from fraud, whereas in the state police was able to  save amount worth Rs 4.80 crore from fraud in the month of October this year.

Kapoor disclosed that, due to  joint efforts of the nodal team and field units of the police, we have been successful in saving Rs 66.92 crore inthe  just past 11 months this year, which in itself shows the efforts and determination of the state police was able to save hard earned public money. DGP said, Rs 38.11 crore has been saved by the state’s Panchkula cyber helpline team and Rs 28.81 crore has been saved by the district cyber units. Apart from this, in a major case of cyber fraud, Team 1930 had got frozen the cyber fraud amount of more than Rs 51 lakh in the bank accounts itself.He disclosed that nearly one lakh complaints related to cyber fraud till 30th, 2023  were received on toll free number 1930, on which more than 51 thousand complaints have been resolved and work is being done on the remaining complaints. This year, 2354 cases were registered under the IT Act, out of which the state police has already disposed of 647 cases, which included 409 high profile cases.

According to a report from Gurugram cyber police cell, during the last week of month April this year during hitech action against cyber ‘thugs’ nearly 100 cyber cheats were arrested by them in which more than 2900 mobile sims were blocked. During month November this year Gurugram cyber crime cell has started a campaign cyber cheats and identified as many as 42 villages in Mewat where 2900 fake sim cards were found working, said sidhant Jain DCP Cyber Crime that hundreds of call were being made on these mobiles everyday and most of the numbers were found registered in another states and it was detected that these mobile phones were linked with nearly 2600 bank accounts being used for tranferring money.
