Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, while implementing zero-tolerance policy against drugs, in 2024, all law enforcement agencies across the country, including the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), seized narcotics worth approximately rupees 25,330 crore, which is more than 55% higher compared to the year 2023. Ambala/ Gurugram: A huge consignment of drugs was seized by CIA-1 staff of Ambala police in Ambala. While addressing media persons, Ajit Singh Shekhawat SP Ambala said led by Inspector Harjinder Singh on a information started search operation and stopped a closed body container bearing registration number HR38AB-3083 near near Tangri River on 152D highway at Bishangarh on 24 June. During checking seized 12 bags in which the smuggling of drugs was being done under the guise of chocolate biscuits. Ambala CIA-1 staff arrested the truck driver along with the accused involved in smuggling identified as Anil, a resident of Barad village. The accused was produced in the court and remanded to police custody for six days. In another case on June 24, CIA-1 staff of Ambala police during checking seized 4 quintals and 76 kg poppy husk in a truck coming from Madhya Pradesh and arrested the truck driver. The accused driver arrested by police was produced in the court and remand to police custody to interrogate him.

SP Shekhawat said that during this year Ambala police has registered 71 cases against drug smugglers in which 117 persons were arrested om whom recovered 5 kg 432 gm opium,, 8kg 140 gm opium plants, 584 kg Poppy husk,, 60 gm smack, 24,300 intoxicated tablets and 5758 capsules. IGP Ambala Division along with SP Ambala inspected huge stocks of drugs seized from the drug smugglers in the past few months which would be destroyed by the police shortly. Shekhawat said that on the direction of DGP Haryana Shatrujit Kapoor, ‘Operation Aakarshan’ was conducted against criminals at Ambala on June 24 by 62 teams of 291 policemen. The police arrested five hard core criminals, 3 bale jumpers and 5 declared offenders by court during the day registered cases against four. Police also registered 10 cases against gamblers and recovered from them Rs 17,430. Amount worth Rs 2 lakh was recovered from the cheaters. Police teams also fines or impounded 20 vehicles during the day.
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Gurugram Police have busted a drug racket valued at over Rs 1 cr and arrested seven Nigerian nationals involved in the operation. The police seized a significant quantity of narcotics, including sulfa, cocaine, and raw cocaine, along with several items used in drug peddling. The Gurugram Crime Branch, arrested a person named Bimal Pahadi involved in drug trafficking and distribution activities in Sector-39. Acting on this tip-off, a raid was conducted at his premises with the recovery of 1.60 kg of sulfa and 116 grams of cocaine. During interrogation, Bimal Pahadi, a native of Nepal revealed crucial information about an extensive drug trafficking network operated by Nigerian nationals across the Delhi-NCR region. Based on his disclosures, the Crime Branch conducted a series of raids targeting several suspects, including seven Nigerian nationals who were also apprehended. Police recovered a total of 1.60 kg of sulfa, 904 grams of cocaine, and 2.34 kg of raw cocaine from their possession. Additionally, officers seized 3 electronic weighing scales, 42 mobile phones, 8 packaging packets, 6 bundles of cellophane tape, Nigerian passports and Rs 7,500 in cash. According to Police information, this was a significant breakthrough in curbing narcotics circulation in the region. Preliminary investigations revealed, there are strong links between the arrested individuals and an organized drug network operating in Delhi-NCR region and the suspects are being interrogated thoroughly.
