Hooda says Haryana Government should file a case of contempt of Supreme Court

Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda has raised  a question over the Haryana government’s talks with Punjab on the SYL canal issue. He said that the Supreme Court has already given a decision in favor of Haryana, so there is no need to talk to Punjab. Hooda also cornered the government on the issue of waterlogging and farmers’ debt and demanded compensation. Hooda raised objections to the repeated meetings between the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab on the issue of construction of SYL canal. Hooda said that in 2002, the Supreme Court had given its verdict in favour of Haryana and in 2004, the Punjab government had refused to accept the honorable Supreme Court’s verdict in the Assembly. After the President’s reference, the Supreme Court’s decision stands in favour of the Haryana government and in such a situation, the Haryana government should not hold any kind of talks with the Punjab government. Hooda advised the Haryana government to file a case of contempt of the Supreme Court order against the Punjab government.

Responding to media questions here, Bhupendra Hooda said that the Haryana government is trying to fool the people by playing the game of  repeated meetings with Punjab. The BJP government has not been able to take time till date to arrange a meeting of the all-party delegation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue. Expressing deep concern over the waterlogging caused by rain in the state, former Haryana CM said that special Girdawari has not been started anywhere. The pumps sent to drain out the water are not working due to lack of electricity. The power plant of Gorakhpur should have been started in the year 2017, but even after eight years there has been no progress. Hooda demanded compensation of Rs 50 thousand per acre to the concerned farmers for waterlogging in the fields and said that the debt on farmers is fast increasing. The farmer of Haryana is in debt of Rs 1, 82, 922 each as against the national average is Rs 74 thousand. While addressing Hodda said in 2014, eight lakh farmers were indebted and today 28 lakh farmers are indebted because the cost of crops is fast increasing, but the government is not providing MSP guarantee. Opposing the increase in collector rate of land, Hooda said that it will become difficult for the poor and middle class people to buy a plot and build a house.

Expressing deep concern the former Chief Minister, while opposing the fee hike in universities, alleged that 50 percent of the posts are vacant in educational institutes. Hooda said that during the assembly elections, the BJP in the state made a lot of ration cards to gain political advantage and now these ration cards are being cancelled. He raised a question if these ration cards were made wrongly, then why were these made. On the media question of not having the Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Assembly so far, Hooda said that when there is no appointment made in the BJP, there is reason to be asked for this delay. While advocating for conducting elections through ballot papers in Haryana, Hooda said that if you look at the results of the last five elections, the party which won the postal votes formed the government. This time Congress has won in 76 out of 90 constituencies through postal votes, but in EVMs, Congress has been defeated by giving it 37 seats.
