Indian and Pakistan kept their border closed for tourists

Amritsar: After the expiry of the deadline which ended yesterday none of the passengers from Pakistan to India and similarly none of the passengers from India to Pakistan crossed over each other’s country. 

Yesterday April 30 was the deadline given by the Indian Government to all the Pakistani nationals who were here in India on tourist visas to leave India as all types of visas granted to Pakistanis were cancelled by the Indian Government.

Today by 4.00 p.m India and Pakistan borders remain closed on both sides as both the neighboring countries didn’t exchange passengers. Long queues of vehicles were seen outside the ICP today.

Today around 70 Pakistani nationals were found waiting to cross over to Pakistan outside the Attari Integrated Check Post  (ICP) but they were not allowed by Customs as well as Immigration Authorities to enter inside the ICP to travel further to Pakistan, said official.

 Official said that Pakistan has shut its International border while leaving its citizens stranded at Attari-Wagah ICP since morning today.

Official at Attari border said that similarly at the Pakistan side there was also a heavy crowd of Indian nationals who were stranded there and waiting to cross over to India but sitting there with fingers crossed.

A Pakistani national Suraj Kumar who was in India to visit his aunt at Indore and thereafter he went to Vaishno Devi Temple at Jammu also stranded on the Indian side as he couldn’t reach the Attari border by April 30th to cross over to Pakistan. He said that he didn’t  know that the orders of the Indian Government about April 30th limit to leave India to be implemented strictly which put him in a doldrums situation.

Another Pakistan national Rajesh said that they were here in India with fifteen family members  for a thirty days visa to visit Haridwar where they got information to leave Indian by April  30th  but couldn’t reach at Attari border well in time and finally struck up here and spent last night on footpath outside the ICP.
