Irregularities in government hospitals of Haryana, nearly 60 doctors on health department radar

The state Health Department has initiated investigations into public, patients complaints against medical officers in rhospitals  in various districts in the state on the charges of misbehaviour with patients, referring them to private hospitals and laboratories, prescribing medicines from outside insteading of supplying free of cost in the hospital and demanding money for issuing medico-legal reports (MLRs). Information reveals that nearly 60 doctors working in government hospitals are already facing investigation against them and are on state health department radar.The office of the Director General of Health Services Panchkula has written a letter to all civil surgeons to conduct an inquiry into the complaints and submit a report to the head office within couple of days.
Information reveals, a scam of issuing MLRs by doctor had come to light in 2010, following the expose the Hisar police had instituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which detected nearly 100 suspected cases which were referred for medical opinion to the PGIMS Rohtak, of these as many as 46 MLRs were suspected, subsequently few  medical officers were dismissed from service. Information also revealed, among those doctors included the names of initially 45 medical officers working in Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Hisar, Kaithal, Panchkula and Sonipat government hospitals facing inquiry for inappropriate behaviour, 12 have reportedly been referring patients to private hospitals. Among them, three doctors from Mahendragarh district, two each from Palwal and Charkhi Dadri, and one each from Fatehabad, Ambala, Gurugram, Hisar and Panipat. Four medical officers, two in Palwal district and one each in Jind district and Hathin Community Health Centre were found allegedly taking money to issue MLRs.

The Health Department had also prepared a list of 23 medical officers in the state whose husband or wife or members of family were found having set up private hospitals in the same town and the department had taken cognisance of the complaints and initiated a probe. Sources reveal that the state health department has also highlighted irregularities and shortcomings at several government hospitals and action is being taken against several doctors on health department radar. There are several government hospitals in the state at Naraingarh, Dadri, Jind, Assandh, Nilokheri, Kalanaur, Meham and Dabwali lack the services of ultrasound , besides large number of hospitals in the state having no laboratory and the patients are being referred to the private hospital as desired by the doctors.
