A college student was arrested from Haryana on suspicion of spying and passing on sensitive information to Pakistan, marking the second such arrest from the state this week at a time when calm prevails along the India-Pakistan border.
Panipat: An ISI spy used to send information about the activities of railway stations and movement of the trains to Pakistan has been arrested as such the railways are on alert. According to information Panipat has a history of terrorist activities where as many as 68 people have died in explosions in the trains and buses and the Railways have suffered losses worth crores of rupees. On 18 February 2007, 66 people were killed in a blast in Samjhauta Express train from Delhi to Lahore caused a huge fire in two bogies in which 66 people including 12 children were severely burnt and died, of them even today 10-12 passengers have not been identified and most of those who died were from Pakistan. On the evening of 16 January 2016, a blast occurred in the bogie of a passenger train going from Panipat to Ambala. There were 20-30 passengers in the train at the time of the accident. On investigation, it was found to be a battery bomb. The police also recovered the cells here. The IB investigated the matter, till date no clue has been found about the person who planted the bomb in the train. A young man was also captured in CCTV while carrying a battery towards the railway station.
According to information, Panipat has always been the target of terrorists and miscreants where terrorist activities have been carried out thrice in trains and once at the bus stand. In 1998, there was a blast in a private bus in which two people died. There was a blast in a passenger train on 12 May 2016 also when an explosion took place at around 8.05 pm in the 64,451 passenger train which arrived at Panipat railway station from Old Delhi. The train was being taken from platform number four to the yard. There was a blast in the front rack and a fire broke out. However, there was no loss of life but the bogie was completely burnt. Investigation revealed that the terrorists had placed a time bomb in the train. On 29th January this year, an attempt was also made to overturn an express train by placing an angle on the railway track near Gohana bridge at 3:30 am and a major accident was averted, since the loco pilot saw this and informed the railway officials, stopped the Netaji Express train at around 3:50 am and a major accident was averted. In another incident the miscreants tried to overturn the train by placing a 20 feet long iron angle on the track near Gohana Road bridge on 29 January.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the ISI spy caught in Hali Colony of Panipat recently used to send information and videos of Panipat railway station and trains to Pakistan. This spy named Nauman Ilahi (24) was sending information about the activities of the Indian Army and their movement of trains, press conferences of military officers and the situation in the country during ‘Operation Sindoor’ was in touch with Pakistani terrorists through social media and lived here with his sister. Originally, the arrested spy Nauman Ilahi was originally a resident of Mohalla Begumpura of Kairana in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh and his sister Zeenat is married in Panipat, lives in Holly Colony here and he lived with his sister in Holly Colony here. He was also in touch with Pakistani terrorists through social media. The accused used to work as a security guard in a factory, a senior officer of Panipat police confirmed this as per the accused’s mobile investigation revealed, Nauman Ilahi was working in a factory in Sector 29.
According to sources in Panipat police, security agencies are on alert after India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ air strike on Pakistan on the night of 6-7 May. However, a ceasefire has been signed between the two countries on 10 May. When the police checked Nauman Ilahi’s mobile, it was found that he was in contact with a terrorist named Iqbal in Pakistan. To whom he was sending information related to India’s security. However, the police have not yet disclosed what kind of information he sent.
Meanwhile, Haryana police arrested a student for spying, allegedly sharing key info With Pakistan. This is the second such arrest this week in Haryana, with a man being arrested for allegedly supplying sensitive information to Pakistan army and terrorists. Devendra Singh Dhillon, a 25-year-old student of political science at Patiala’s Khalsa College, was arrested from Kaithal on May 12 for uploading photos of pistols and guns on his Facebook account. During questioning, it emerged that he went to Pakistan in November last year through the Kartarpur corridor and was sharing sensitive information with officers of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence agency who had allegedly spent a lot of money to indulge Dhillon.
Kaithal Police Superintendent Aastha Modi said the first year Masters student also shared images of the Patiala military cantonment with Pakistan’s officers. His mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic investigation, and his bank account is being investigated to ascertain the money trail between him and Pakistani officers. Dhillon’s arrest comes days after 24-year-old Nauman Ilahi was arrested at Panipat on similar charges, a Uttar Pradesh native, who was employed as a security guard in Haryana, used to get money from agents in the account of his brother-in-law and the company driver for giving information to Pakistan. Earlier, Punjab Police last week had arrested two persons, including a woman, for their alleged involvement in espionage activities linked to a Pakistani official posted at the High Commission in Delhi.
