Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly begins its nine-day Autumn Session in Srinagar today, with a packed agenda and expectations of heated debates.
The session, which runs till October 31, will open with obituary references before taking up key government bills, including amendments to the Panchayati Raj Act, the GST Act, and a new Shops and Business Establishment Bill.
With 450 questions, 13 private members’ bills, and 55 resolutions listed, the opposition is set to corner the National Conference-led government on issues such as the restoration of statehood, reservation policy, and the regularisation of daily wage workers.
A highlight of the session will be Friday’s Rajya Sabha elections, where three NC candidates are expected to win comfortably, while the fourth seat could see a tight contest between the BJP and NC nominees.
Security has been tightened around the Assembly complex as political parties brace for a stormy session marked by sharp exchanges over governance, jobs, and public services.
