United by Unique is the theme for World Cancer Day 2026
Noida: Ahead of World Cancer Day, Medanta hospital, Noida organised a public awareness session to spread knowledge about modern cancer care and the importance of a unified, patient-centric treatment approach.
The session was aligned with this year’s global theme, ‘United by Unique’, which highlighted the fact that while cancer affects millions, every patient’s journey is unique and requires a customised treatment plan supported by a multidisciplinary team.
Doctors highlighted that ‘United’ signifies the seamless integration of multiple oncology specialties, while ‘Unique’ reflects the personalised treatment strategy designed for every patient based on cancer type, stage, genetics and overall health.*
According to Dr. Sajjan Rajpurohit, Director & Head – Medical Oncology, Medanta Hospital Noida “Precision oncology has fundamentally changed the way we treat cancer today. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, we now analyse the genetic and molecular profile of a tumour to select the most effective therapy for an individual patient.
Advances in immunotherapy have enabled the body’s own immune system to recognise and destroy cancer cells with remarkable accuracy, while targeted therapies and gene-based treatments help attack cancer at its root cause.
These innovations not only improve treatment response but also significantly reduce side effects, allowing patients to maintain a better quality of life during and after treatment.”
Dr. Alok Thakar, Director Surgical Oncology said “Robotic-assisted cancer surgery has brought unprecedented precision to complex oncological procedures. With enhanced 3D vision, greater dexterity and minimal invasiveness, robotic surgery allows us to remove tumours more accurately while preserving healthy tissue. This precision translates into minimal blood loss, reduced post-operative pain, fewer complications and significantly faster recovery for patients. In head and neck cancers, robotic surgery allows us to access difficult-to-reach areas such as the throat, base of the tongue and voice box with exceptional accuracy, while preserving critical structures responsible for speech, swallowing and appearance. As a result, patients not only achieve excellent cancer control but also retain vital functions and quality of life, making robotic surgery a transformative advancement in head and neck cancer care.”
Dr. Deepak Kumar Mittal, Director – Radiation Oncology, said “Radiation therapy has seen significant technological progress in recent years. Techniques such as Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) enable us to deliver highly precise radiation doses by tracking tumour movement in real time. Proton therapy, in particular, represents a major leap forward as it delivers radiation directly to the tumour while sparing nearby organs, making it especially beneficial for paediatric cancers and tumours located near critical structures. These advances ensure higher tumour control with fewer long-term side effects.
Dr. V. Seenu, Director – Cancer Care (Endocrine and Breast Surgery) said “Cancer care today demands precision, collaboration and timely intervention. In endocrine and breast cancers, early detection combined with evidence-based surgery and personalised treatment planning plays a decisive role in long-term outcomes. At Medanta Noida, a multidisciplinary team evaluates every patient collectively, ensuring that surgery is integrated seamlessly with medical and radiation therapies to deliver optimal cancer control while preserving quality of life.”
Dr. Esha Kaul, Director – Haemato Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant, said “Haematological cancers have witnessed remarkable progress with advances in targeted therapy, immunotherapy and bone marrow transplantation.
Conditions that were once considered incurable are now treatable, and in many cases, curable. A structured, multidisciplinary approach supported by advanced transplant facilities and supportive care is crucial in achieving better survival and improved quality of life for patients
The awareness session also encouraged early detection, lifestyle modification and regular screening as key pillars in reducing the cancer burden.
Doctors emphasised that timely diagnosis, coupled with a multidisciplinary and personalised treatment approach, can significantly improve outcomes.
Through this initiative, doctors highlighted the strength of its comprehensive cancer programme, where the availability of all oncology specialists and advanced treatment modalities under one roof enables patients to receive the most appropriate, personalised and effective cancer care reinforcing the message that when medical expertise is united, every patient can receive care that is truly unique.
