Trinamool leader Derek O’Brian says this as ‘Parliamentophobia’

New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the monsoon session of Parliament, which will commence on July 21 and conclude on August 12. The government’s decision, which disregards the opposition, has faced criticism from various opposition leaders, including Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien. Derek expressed on social media, “The Modi government is afraid to confront the opposition in Parliament. This peculiar situation is referred to as ‘parliamentary-phobia,’ which involves avoiding special sessions.” Many have praised his choice of words.

Within three months, the monsoon session of Parliament is being organized. In this context, Kiren Rijiju stated that according to the rules, the opposition can discuss all issues in the upcoming parliamentary session. A significant segment of the political community believes that by announcing an emergency session, the government has effectively made it clear that they are not interested in calling a special session. The central minister informed that the date for the session was recommended during a cabinet meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju mentioned that ‘Operation Sindoor’ will be discussed during the session.

The central minister stated, “Each session is unique, and we will discuss all issues, including ‘Operation Sindoor.’ The government desires unity among all, and we have reached out to the opposition, hoping that everyone will stand together with us. The announcement of the parliamentary session’s date comes at a time when opposition leaders have demanded an immediate special session of Parliament to discuss ‘Operation Sindoor.’

Yesterday, 16 parties from the ‘India alliance’ led by the Trinamool Congress wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi requesting the convening of a special session. This letter was signed by opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress Abhishek Banerjee, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, senior Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, Deepender Hooda, President of the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav, and other opposition MPs.
