MPs from Bengal BJPs are not in the list of speakers in Parliament on women’s reservation bill, anger in Bengal brigade

New Delhi : In the history of the country, the names of Bengali women are written in golden letters, be it social change or freedom struggle. Politics or social policy, science to technology. Be it in the world of sports or education, music or in the world of cinema, the contribution of Bengali women are well known. 

However, in the debate on the women’s reservation bill in the parliament, the saffron camp has not included any Bengali MP in the list of its speakers. A few speakers mentioned the contribution of Sarojini Naidu, Matangini Hazra, Geeta Mukhopadhyay or Mamata Banerjee but left out a long list. The list of names could have been longer if the MPs from Bengal had been given the opportunity to speak. Needless to say, Geeta Mukhopadhayay was the Chairperson of first Committee was set up for Women Reservation Bill in the Parliament.

A BJP MP from Bengal who don’t want to mention her name, admitted that the opportunity to speak on this issue was missed. Even though they did not say anything publicly, the BJP MPs of Bengal are angry with this decision of the party. The MPs of Bengal BJP camp have decided to bring the matter to the attention of the top leadership.

When the issue of women’s representation is increasing in Parliament is being discussed, Bengali MPs remained absent from the BJP’s list. Saffron camp did not keep a single woman on the list of speakers. However, the name was submitted to the Parliamentary Minister Prahlad Joshi on behalf of the Banga Brigade.

Sources also said that Bengal’s parliamentarians raised the matter with the top leadership of the parliamentary party. A BJP MP from Bengal, who did not want to be named, expressed his anger and said, “This incident has increased the discomfort. The opposition can raise the issue. In that case, Bengali should be criticized, the top leadership should have been more careful”.
