Mumbai Central Railway Detects 43.5K Illegal Travel Cases In Covid Times

Mumbai : Apparently, Covid-19 is not a deterrent for adamant rail travelers in the busybee city of Mumbai, where the Mumbai Division of Central Railway detected 43,516 cases in suburban and long distance mail/exp trains during intensive, special & regular ticket checking drives in which Rs 1.50 crore was collected in fines.

The railway authorities, in continuing efforts to prevent unauthorised passengers travel in suburban and special long distance trains, conducted these checking drives from June 2020 to November 2020 through a team of senior officers and ticket checking staff.

The checking detected total 43,526 cases from which Rs 1.50 crore was realized as penalty. Out of 43,526 cases, 39,516 cases were detected in suburban trains with the fines amounting to Rs 1.10 crore, while 4000 cases were detected on long distance mail express trains with the fines amounting to Rs 40 lakh.

The 43,516 cases included 36,754 cases in Regular ticket checking drives, 4,616 cases in Intensive and 2,146 cases in Special ticket checking drives, railway officials said, while appealing to rail passengers to travel with proper and valid tickets during the Covid-19 pandemic.
