NCRB report: Nearly a lakh kidnapping cases registered every year in country

According to National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) survey report nearly 1.05 lakh kidnapping cases were registered by the police every year in 2018 and 2019 in the country. NCRB information reveals that total numbers of 512160 persons were reported kidnapped in 477671 kidnapping cases in past five years in the country, which included 146541 cases in which nearly 29% kidnappings of females were held for marriage, 2921 cases for ransom demand and in remaining cases the reasons were old rivalry, human smuggling, kidnapping for rape or gang rapes, kidnapping of children for adoption, sale, indulge them in begging profession and domestic work. Information furtherreveals that during the year 2019 as many as 205 persons were reported found killed after kidnapping.

NCRB report reveals that maximum female kidnappings in the country are reported for the marriage or sex exploitation and according to survey report- 2019 Lucknow was identified leading in this regard in the country, whereas Bangluru recorded maximum number of kidnapping cases for ransom demand during the year. Information also reveals that during year 2018-19, there was 24% drop in kidnapping cases recorded in U.P state, 20% drop in kidnapping cases recorded in Haryana state and on the other hand 8% increase in kidnapping cases  was recorded in Bihar state during the year.

According to NCRB report, maximum cases of kidnappings during year 2019 were reported to police in five towns in the country: Lucknow, Patna, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, and Surat. While having a look at the kidnappings graph since past five years, 84483 kidnapping cases were reported in 2015, 100555 kidnapping cases were reported in 2016, 113561kidnapping cases reported in 2017, 105536 kidnapping cases reported in 2018 and 108025 kidnapping cases reported in 2019. However, report over kidnapping cases in the country during current year has not been released so far.
