Nearly 150-year-old Portuguese era library reopens in Goa

Panjim:  The newly renovated, Portuguese era Ataide municipal library was reopened to the public after a Rs 3.8cr makeover at Mapusa, in north Goa on June 6

Vishwanath Rane, Goa, Minister for urban development, tcp, health and forest, inaugurated the 1883 established library, which has over the years amassed a significant collection of over 25000 titles, including more than 5000 Portuguese titles.

Post Goa liberation, the library was taken over by the Mapusa municipal council.

Declaring arts and culture as being very relevant in Goa’s heritage, Rane said, that the Goa government considered this very important and was providing all the needed funds in this regard, including for this library.

Mapusa  MLA Joshua  d’ Souza and Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira were also present on the occasion.
