Punjabi Music Industry Mourns: Rising Star Rajvir Jawanda, 35, Succumbs to Injuries from Tragic Road Accident

CHANDIGARH: Popular Punjabi singer and actor Rajvir Jawanda passed away this morning at Fortis Hospital in Mohali. He succumbed to severe injuries sustained in a road accident 11 days ago. The 35-year-old artist, known for his soulful songs reflecting Punjabi pride and rural life, breathed his last at 10:55 AM following multiple organ failure. He had been on ventilator support since September 27, when his BMW motorcycle collided with stray cattle near Pinjore in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district. According to hospital officials, he suffered serious head and spinal injuries and was airlifted to Fortis Hospital after initial treatment at a local hospital.

In a statement, the hospital said, “Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda passed away at 10:55 AM on October 8, 2025, at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He was admitted on September 27 in an extremely critical condition following a road accident that caused severe spinal injuries and brain damage. Despite extensive medical support, he succumbed to multiple organ failure this morning.”

The news of his death spread rapidly across social media, drawing massive public grief. Fans gathered outside the hospital as police tightened security to manage the crowds. His last rites will be held on October 9 in his native village Pauna, Jagraon, Ludhiana district.

Born on August 12, 1990, in Pauna village near Jagraon, Rajvir Jawanda was the son of Punjab Police officer Karam Singh Jawanda. Initially aspiring to join the police, he completed his schooling in Jagraon, graduated from DAV College, and earned a degree in theatre from Punjab University. He even cleared the Punjab Police entrance exam and served as a constable before resigning in 2019 to pursue his passion for music.

Influenced by Gurdas Maan and Kuldeep Manak, Jawanda began training in classical and folk music under Lalli Khan and participated in youth festivals during college. His debut single Munda Like Me (2014) marked his entry into the Punjabi music scene, followed by popular hits like Sardari, Kangni, Rabb Karke, Zor, Kali Jawande Di, Tu Dis Painda, Khush Reha Kar, Surname, Afreen, Landlord, and Do Ni Sajna. His songs, rooted in Punjab’s culture and youth pride, earned millions of views and a strong fan base across digital platforms.

Jawanda also made his mark in Punjabi cinema with Subedar Joginder Singh (2018) alongside Gippy Grewal, and later appeared in Jind Jaan, Mindo Taseeldarni, and Kaka Ji. With over 2.7 million Instagram followers, he remained known for his humility and close connection with fans. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

The Punjabi entertainment world reacted with deep sorrow. Actress Neeru Bajwa expressed heartbreak on social media, while comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi called Jawanda his “little brother.” Actor BN Sharma and superstar Diljit Dosanjh also paid emotional tributes. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who had visited the singer in hospital, wrote that Punjab had “lost a shining star whose voice will forever echo in our hearts.” Politicians across parties, including Raghav Chadha, Amarinder Singh, Manish Sisodia, Tarun Chugh, and Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa, offered condolences, remembering his contribution to Punjabi culture.
