Gurugram: ACP Cyber Crime Priyanshu Diwan said that a person living in South Zone had lodged a complaint of fraud in Cyber Police Station South on June 3 that the fraudsters lured him to earn huge profits by investing in the stock market, made him deposit lakhs of rupees in several installments. The complainant said he suffered fraud of Rs 68.73 lakh in the name of investment and deposited lakhs of rupees several times. Taking action after the complaint, Gurugram Cyber Police arrested an accused from Sector 12, Noida on Sunday, who was identified as Shubham Rana of Sector 12. He said that the fraudsters lured him to earn huge profits by investing in the stock market. Also, they made him deposit lakhs of rupees in several installments. During interrogation of the arrested accused and police investigation, it was found that out of the amount defrauded in the case, Rs 30 lakh was transferred to the bank account of accused Shubham Rana. Shubham had sold the money to another of his associates on a commission of 10 percent of the amount to be transferred to the bank account.
The police have recovered a mobile phone from him. He was produced in the court on Monday and taken on one-day police remand, to be questioned about his other accomplices. ACP Diwan who has solved a large number of on-line frauds in the past couple of years said, “Always stay away from those who lure you with huge profits, whenever someone tempts you with a populist offer to earn huge profits, you must understand its truth. It has now become common that a few people loot people’s hard-earned money due to their greed. Due to such increasing incidents of fraud, cyber crime has increased tremendously.” ACP Diwan said sometimes someone falls prey to a call from a fake call center and sometimes someone falls prey to the trap of doubling the money in a short time and loses all his capital. “This is a matter of great concern. Despite the advisory issued every day in this regard, people are easily falling prey to such fraudsters,” ACP said.
