Hisar: Maharaja Agrasen Hisar Airport in Haryana is facing threat to cut electricity supply since the airport has not paid its electricity bill worth Rs 94.43 lakh since after its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first flight from Hisar to Ayodhya on April 14, 2025, in-spite of several reminders and warnings to disconnect electricity supply by electricity department. The airport received its flight licence in March 2025. On 14 April, when Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Airport, flagged off the Hisar to Ayodhya flight, at that time four months of electricity bills were already pending. Later, on 9 June, Chief Minister Nayab Saini also launched the Hisar to Chandigarh flight, but the bills remained unpaid, leaving confusion over bill payment. Who’s responsible? When asked about the unpaid dues, the Airport Authority said that the responsibility lies with the Civil Aviation Department, Haryana. claiming they have no role in paying the power supply bill. He said the airport has an electricity load of 2,000 kilowatts and a separate substation was set up just for them. According to electricity department Hisar, Public Health Department is another the second-highest major defaulter, in the district having to pay about Rs 64 lakh having thirteen bills pending for various water works where electric motors run continuously. Information also reveals, DGCA had issued the airport license to Hisat Airport in March this year valid for only six months only, which will expire in October 2025. Airport authorities have already applied for renewal. The new licence, if granted, will be valid for five years. DGCA Operational Director, Prashant Fulmare confirmed that the renewal process is underway and they are working to get the licence on time. However, the airline operating from Hisar has stopped bookings from October due to uncertainty over licence renewal. If the licence is not issued in time, all flight operations will stop.
Currently, flights are running from Hisar to Ayodhya, Chandigarh and Delhi. Hisar to Jaipur flights have been delayed. The government also plans to launch flights to Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Dehradun, and Jammu. Due to a shortage of aircraft, Alliance Air has yet to begin these routes, which could launch after the licence renewal.
