Self-help groups of Punjab, Himachal and Chandigarh got recognition in PITEX

30 Self Help Group of women reached in PITEX Amritsar in collaboration with SIDBI

Amritsar 11 Dec – The women’s self-help groups at the ongoing Punjab International Trade Expo in Amritsar has got a new identity. Currently, self-help groups of women from Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal have reached Pitex with the help of SIDBI. Women belonging to these groups are selling their own products.

RS Sachdeva, Chair, Punjab Chapter, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in a statement to media here today that 30 stalls have been booked for the first time with the support of SIDBI, where women self-help groups have brought their products. Harjinder Kaur, President of Udan Self Help Group Gurdaspur, said that earlier, while women were limited to house hold work , now rural women are coming forward as entrepreneurs, her group is making handmade items of Phulkari and Woollen.

Neelam Verma from Solan (Himachal) who runs  RS  food product group, said that her husband’s always wanted her to be financially independent, she not only made her husband’s dream come true but also made other women independent. She arrived in Pitex with chutney, marmalade, pickles etc.

Sunita, who arrived here from Chandigarh with jewellery made of stone. She and her women associates are making and selling stone ornaments as per the demand. On this occasion, SIDBI General Manager Balbir Singh and Assistant Manager Himanshu Sharad Jaiswal said that workshops are being organized to make women and men groups self-reliant through self-reliance fairs organized by SIDBI.

Chairman RS Sachdeva apprised that the group of 60 people arrived at Pitex is not only being provided a platform in Pitex, but their accommodation and food are also being arranged by SIDBI.
