SGPC’s signature campaign for release of Sikh prisoners receives positive response

Amritsar, December 6 – The signature campaign launched by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee for the release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners) is receiving a positive response. Under this campaign, which was started on December 1, people are demanding release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentences by filling proformas at several historical Gurdwaras in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Moreover, people are also joining this campaign in foreign countries and digitally.

SGPC secretary Partap Singh in a statement issued here today said that since the first day, there is great enthusiasm among the people towards this signature campaign. He said that the process of filling proforma was started at about 25 Gurdwaras in Punjab and Haryana under the first phase, which is being extended further. He said that a signature campaign has been started through the SGPC Sikh Missions in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi also, in continuation of which proformas are also being sent to Sikh Missions in other parts of the country to demand the release of Sikh prisoners.

He said the process of filling proforma through online medium is also ongoing and the people can connect to this case digitally through SGPC website and social media platforms.

Partap Singh informed that till Tuesday, more than 1.20 lakh proformas were filled under this signature campaign for the release of Sikh prisoners at different Gurdwaras and about 5,000 forms have been filled online. He said that in the next few days this campaign will be extended to educational institutions and other Gurdwaras as well as to the village level.

Meanwhile, SGPC member Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar has held meetings with local people to connect them to this signature campaign in Australia. He said from Australia, that Punjabis have been made aware about the signature campaign there. During these meetings, the Sangat has been informed about filling the form online and the Gurdwara managements have expressed their commitment to actively promote this movement in the country.
