HISAR: Chitta has become a ‘silent killer’ for young people in Hisar, leading to the deaths of 26 in the past year. Police have registered 150 NDPS cases and arrested 288 drug traffickers during the year 2025. The worst part is syringe sharing threatens to spread AIDS which claimed 26 lives during the year in Hisar in the past year. Information reveals, Police arrested 288 drug traffickers during the year 2025. Information also reveals that 290 young people affected by this silent killer drug are being treated in de-addiction centers in Hisar. People say ‘Chitta’ is not just a drug, it has become a ‘silent killer’ for youth in the area.

The popular district in the state, Hisar has quietly entered a dangerous phase. This era isn’t about bullets or bombs, but about syringes and Chitta in the past couple of years. As per report during year 2025, to break the drug supply chain the police have conducted large-scale raids in Hisar district and 150 cases were registered under the NDPS Act in which 288 drug smugglers were arrested and sent behind bars. Police conducted raids at the hotspots (Piranwali) and 30 cases were registered arresting 65 drug smugglers. Police also conducted raids at Ambedkar Basti where 25 cases were registered in which 54 accused were arrested. Police seized a large quantity of synthetic and traditional drugs in the district during 2025 and seized  2,014 kg  Chura Post, 222,300 kg ganja, 6,680 kg opium Heroin 2,098 kg, 309 gm Charas and 23,714 intoxicated drugs (tablets/capsules/injections).

As regards Rehabilitation and Social Reform, not only strictness, but efforts are also underway to bring youth caught in the grip of drug addiction back into the mainstream: According to official data, 290 youth received treatment in de-addiction centers and 650 individuals received mental and psychological counseling. Investigations revealed that the main drug supply route to Hisar is through Delhi and Punjab. Police investigations have revealed that Chitta is brought in by Nigerian citizens living in Delhi and smugglers from Punjab. Ganja and poppy husk are supplied from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Civil Hospital clinical psychologist Dr. Shalu Dhanda stated that approximately 200 young people come to Hisar daily for drug cessation medication. Approximately 600 young people are registered for drug cessation medication. Those who quit are admitted to a de-addiction center. Currently, two to three young people are currently enrolled every day. Hisar Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan stated that a special campaign has been launched against drug traffickers. Along with the arrest of the accused, their properties are also being attached.
