Sirsa a hot spot for drugs in Haryana

 According to Haryana Narcotic Control Bureau (HNCB) started functioning in the state since past nine months ago, however due to incomplete infrastructure having lack of staff as well as shortage of vehicles could not do well, Preliminary information reveals that Sirsa district in Haryana state adjoining Punjab and Rajasthan states has become a hot spot for smuggling and supply of drugs mainly poppy husk, opium, charas, heroine and intoxicated drugs including tablet, capsule and injection. In and adjoining states Similarly, area in Haryana state near NCR and Delhi has witnessed larges number of drug smuggling cases mainly ‘Chitta’ a drug consumed by young generation supplied in schools, colleges and universities in the state through a mafia network. Both Haryana and Punjab police officers jointly had several meetings to wipe out drug smuggling and sale. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij ordered HNCB as well as state police to adopt geo-coding system to collect data at every police station level to fight smuggling and supply of drugs in the state.

Haryana state police gathered some important information as regard recovery of drugs in the state during year 2019 and observed that out of total number of drug smuggling cases reported in Haryana state 22% cases of smuggling and sale of poppy husk were registered in Sirsa district, nearly 25% cases of smuggling and sale were reported in Palwal district which included 16% cases of charas as well as nearly 16% cases each for recovery of charas were reported in Jhajjer and Karnal districts. As regard recovery of drugs like opium, heroine and intoxicated drugs including tablet, capsule and injections Sirsa district topped in recovery of these drugs in which police seized nearly 21% opium, 32% heroine and 35% intoxicated drugs including tablets and capsules. Jind district was found leading in recovery of 25% smack, Yamunanagar and Hisar districts identified recovery of 20-24% intoxicated tablet and capsule and Ambala district recorded maximum recovery of 24% intoxicated injection during raids in the year 2019.

 According to HNCB study, nearly2300 persons in age group between 30-45 years were reported died in Haryana state because of taking excessive quantity of drugs between year 2017 and 2019, which included 78 youths between age 14 and 18 year, 624 youths between age 18 and 30 year, 784 persons between age 30 to 45 year, 550 persons between age 45 and 60 year and 241 persons of age above 60 year. Narcotic Control Bureau claims recovery of 7757 intoxicated injections and 78,26,058 intoxicated tablets and capsules in Haryana state during year2017 to 2019.

Information further revealed, maximum quantity of drugs are being smuggled in Haryana and Punjab from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir where crop of poppy husk and opium is cultivated illegally in hilly areas. Similarly, poppy husk and opium is being unethically cultivated in agriculture farms in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh and smuggled in the states of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi in code words. Information also reveals, licensed agriculture crop of opium being cultivated in Madhya Pradesh, U.P and Rajasthan being smuggled to other states in the country. According to Special Task Force in Punjab Delhi and Chandigarh zones 564 drug smuggling cases were registered in which549 persons were arrested in past five years.
