Truck scanner installed at Indo-Pak border defected as not useful-Aujla

Amritsar, October 20: Member Parliament Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla  here today rejected the full body truck scanner by saying it was not useful at the Indo-Pak International border.

Aujla, a member of parliament, visited the Indo-Pak Attari border to inspect the basic infrastructure keeping in view the national security aspects besides to  have firsthand experience  about the problems being faced by the  officials of Border Security Force, Customs department and incoming and outgoing passengers to Pakistan.

He along with senior BSF and Custom officials   inspected passenger facilitates and improvements, renovation and development of infrastructure at ICP, parking issues, farmers and border fence issues, highway projects etc.

He held meeting at JCP Attari with the officials of Landport Authority of India, Indian Customs, Border Security Force of India, National Highway Authority of India regarding the development works being carried out at JCP (Joint Check Post) and ICP Attari including the installation of high mast flagpost and beautification works at JCP, rejected truck scanner, passenger facilitates and improvements, renovation and development of infrastructure at ICP, parking issues, farmers and border fence issues, highway projects etc. 

Addressing the media Aujla informed that after decade long struggle and half decade long installation process the truck scanner installed at ICP Amritsar failed all the basic mandatory tests as found defunct.

He claimed that a certain anti India lobby had not included experts from Customs and other agencies in the committee formed to procure the scanner due to which it failed at the tests. The tender allotted to Punj Lloyd was cancelled and the scanner is being dismantled for return.

Talking about the defunct full body truck scanner, expressing his apprehension he said that the enemies were within us and possibilities can’t be ruled out  about their connectivity across the border.

Aujla said that he will be taking up this matter with MHA and PMO during the winter session of Lok Sabha.

Aujla informed that MHA and GOI has honored the request he made in May 2020 regarding installation of a high mast flagpost. He further said that a new 418 ft flagpost is going to be installed by NHAI. 

He said that other matters related to trade, porters, pensions etc. shall be taken up at Lok Sabha session and PMO.
