Will Vande Bharat Express be able to fulfil claims of being fastest train?

The question arises if Vande Bharat Express claimed to be the fastest train left New Delhi railway station for Varanasi after Prime Minister Narender Modi and Union Railway Minister gave green signal would be capable to run at 180 kph speed as claimed by Indian Railways. Earlier, railways had announced Gatiman Express and Shatabdi Express trains to run at 150 kph and 130 kph speed respectively but both trains failed to run at claimed speed. Information reveals that both Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains are running on an average 90 kph speed and superfast trains are running on an average 65 kph speed.

According to a railway spokesman, there are several reasons the trains fail to fulfil claimed speed including shortage of rail tracks, busy routes due to fast increasing number of trains, absence of concrete wall on both sides of frail racks, and blockage of tracks due to many technical reasons. Information also reveals that Vande Bharat train would be capable to pick the speed quickly after a sudden and forced halt thus saving time. Many times train drivers  had to apply sudden brake mid way when fail to get signal clearance thus disrupting the speed of train when all passenger, fast, superfast, Shatabdi and even goods trains are running on the same rail track.

According to sources, Railway Freight Coridor between Ludhiana and Kolkata is under construction on which amount worth Rs 22000 crore would be spent by the railways likely to be completed by 2022 when all goods trains delaying fast trains on the rail track would be able to run on 18 feet high elevated track, which would certainly increase the speed of Shatabdi, Rajdhani and other superfast trains. According to railway information, there is proposal to start 130 Vande Bharat trains on the railway tracks to connect four metros in future, which would initially run at 130 kph speed to be increased to160 kph and finally to run at 180 kph speed as claimed. The fare for this newly introduced train is more than Shatabdi train but less than Rajdhani train.
