KATHMANDU: Zaap EV has launched in Kathmandu, announcing an electric two-wheeler rental service it says is Nepal’s first to focus on women and sustainability.

From August 17, users can visit the company’s website to enrol for membership and complete KYC verification for early access. Operations are slated to begin in mid-September, targeting daily commuters, gig-economy workers and students with an affordable, low-emission option.

“Zaap EV is more than just a rental service—it’s about bridging the gap between gig workers, students, and affordable rides,” said Managing Director Dr Sudeep Rauniar at the launch. “We are creating a model that is not only sustainable for the environment but also economically empowering for the people who need mobility the most.”

Senior adviser Anukool Bhatnagar said demand for cleaner transport was rising across the city. “The demand for affordable and eco-friendly ride options is rising every day. Zaap EV has the potential to be a building block in shaping Kathmandu’s green mobility future.”

The start-up plans to deploy a fleet of electric scooters supported by a growing battery-swapping network, and says accessibility will be central to its rollout. Pricing, service areas and station locations are expected to be detailed before the mid-September start.
