1263 cases of commercial drug smuggling cases registered in Haryana in 10 months

In-spite of all efforts by Haryana State Narcotic Bureau there is no relief in drug smuggling cases in the state, blame Punjab responsible for increasing cases of smuggling narcotics and psychotropic substances in commercial quantity in Haryana state, especially in seven of its districts bordering Punjab state, the official data has revealed. This year, in the first 10 months up to 31 October as many as1263 NDPS Act cases involving commercial quantities of drugs cases registered by Haryana police reached the courts in Haryana, of these, 631 cases were registered in Fatehabad, Sirsa Jind, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Ambala and Panchkula, the seven Haryana districts that share borders with Punjab’s Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala and SAS Nagar.

The district-wise comercial drugs smuggling cases cases  which were registered in Haryana state include 206 cases in Fatehabad, 162 cases in Sirsa, 123 cases in Faridabad,  70 cases in Jind, 69 cases in Kaithal, 63 cases in Panipat, 58 cases in Ambala, 57 cases in Rohtak, 53 cases in Karnal, 51 cases in Hisar, 44 cases in Kurukshetra, 43 cases in Kurukshetra, 41 cases in Jhajjar, 36 cases in Hansi, 30 cases in Nuh, 27 cases in Gurugram, 26 cases each in Yamunanagar and Bhiwani, 22 cases in Panchkula, 18 cases in Sonipat, 16 cases in Charkhi Dadri, 8 cases in Mahendergarh and 3 cases in Rewari. Tleven such cases are registered by GRP Ambala and are under trial.

Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB), which is actively pursuing all these cases, is aiming to secure minimum 10 years imprisonmentfor for all the accused.Information reveals that the majority of drug addicts in the country as well as in Haryana and Punjab are youths, a cause for rising crimes: Punjab and Haryan. According to the available data, the highest 206 such cases pertaining to seizure of commercial quantity of drugs are under trial in Fatehabad, followed by 162 in Sirsa. Haryana State Narcotic Control Bureau is also focusing on synthetic drugs. In the recent past it has come to fore that smugglers were using private courier companies to send synthetic drugs to various parts of the country.

The Gurugram unit bureau arrested three persons including two from Rajasthan and one from Himachal Pradesh for illegally smuggling Amphetamine, a central nervous system stimulant used in treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, narcolepsy and obesity – out of the country through a private courier company. There are drugs available with the chemists used for addiction and state police has also arrested large numbers of persons in the past sometimes supplying such intoxicated medicines .

 Additional DGP OP Singh, who is also the Narcotic Control Bureau chief in the state while talking to media persons said that to dismantle Haryana the burgeoning drug trafficking networks, we have orchestrated a tactical shift in our anti-narcotics strategy. The focal point of this plan is to bolster the conviction rate in commercial quantity drug cases, setting a minimum conviction period of 10 years. ADGP Singh said that special cells have been established within the Narcotic Control Bureau units in the state staffed by officials trained in narcotic offenses prosecution liaising with District Attorneys, witnesses and NDPS divisions of Forensic Science Laboratories to ensure a fortified and expedited prosecution process.
