4191 suicide cases reported during year 2019 in Haryana

According to a study, over 1.39 lakh persons in the country committed suicide during the year 2019, which include 4191 victims in Haryana state having 3297 males and 894 females on an average 11 persons committed suicide daily due to different reasons including mental tension, unemployment, heavy financial loss in business, domestic violence and conflict between husband-wife, un-success in examination and in some cases deceived by opposite sex in love affairs. Information reveals that number of suicide cases was reported 3547 in previous year 2018 witnessed 18.2% increase in suicide cases over previous year on 2019..

Information also reveals, during the year 2019 nearly 55% suicide cases included due to domestic violence, tension prevailing between husband and wife, and prolonged health disorder. According to state police department records, during year 2019 police registered 32.4% suicide cases due to domestic violence, 5.5% suicide cases due to matrimonial conflicts between married couple and 17.5% suicide cases prolonged disease. Study also revealed that in 53.6% cases the victim committed suicide by hanging, 25.8% victims committed suicide by taking poison, 5.2% victims committed suicide by jumping in river water or wells, 3.8% victims lost their lives confining themselves into flames and 2.4% victims committed suicide by jumping in front of moving train or another vehicle.

Information further reveals that the number of suicide cases at Faridabad in Haryana state in 2019 was maximum reported 265 cases as compared to previous year registered 148 cases in 2018. Similarly, 2357 suicide cases were registered in the neighbouring Punjab state in 2019 as against 1714 suicide cases registered in the year 2018. Drop in 29 suicide cases was recorded at Chandigarh UT in 2019 as compared to previous year. Information also reveals that during the year 2019 highest number of 18916 suicide cases were registered in Maharashtra state during the 2019, whereas Nagaland state in the country recorded lowest number of suicide cases in the year. A senior legal advisor told that according to section 115 of IPC 309 no legal action can be taken by the police against person attempted to commit suicide due to mental tension till it is proved and the alleged accuse prosecuted by the court. Information further reveals, in case of death due to suicide suspected by deceased family investigation by the police continues suspecting a case of murder as in the recent case of Bollywood star Sushant Rajput being presently investigated by CBI.
