93 fake birth and a death certificates prepared by hacking CRS portal of hospital

Yamunanagar: Police registered case on the complaint of civil hospital Yamunagar stated that during year 2022 as many as 93 fake birth and one fake death certificates were issued which included 44 birth certificates from Primary Health Centre at Kalanaur in the district and 54 certificates were issued from Yamunanagar hospital besides a death certificate of those residing in Bhiwani, Rohtak, Elanabad, Hisar, Rohtak and Sirsa districts in Haryana state allegedly by hacking civil registration system (CRS) portal by Cyber Cell criminals with the Regional General India (RGI) authority. Though, the complaint was made by CMO Yamunanagar to then Superintendent Police in the year 2022 but no action was taken and the case remained hanging in files for a long time from one police station to another without action. District Registrar Civil Hospital Dr Rajesh Parmar finding no action in this serious matter sent a reminder to present SP Yamunanagar Mohit Handa who ordered immediate action in this matter and a criminal case was registered against unknown accused two days ago under sections 120-B, 220,467,468 and 471 IPC by City and Sadar police stations Yamunanagar.

Haryana government alerted RGI under the Union ministry of home affairs over the certificates being generated by unauthorized persons after breaching the security and misuse of such certificates for criminal issues. Dr Rajesh in his complaint to the police said that CRS IDs were hacked at the district civil hospital and PHC Kalanaur and fake certificates were found to be issued during an internal probe in August 2021 and December 2021. According to the list of fake certificates, nearly all such fake certificates were issued to the applicants having a residential address in different districts in Haryana, but also to few persons belonging to Punjab and Delhi states also. Investigation further revealed that out of the total 98 fake certificates 11 certificates were issued locally and the rest of the certificates were issued to those mostly living in Panipat, Faridabad, Gurugram, Palwal, Sonipat and other districts.

According to RGI, there was a misuse of user/login ID and passwords in the existing portal/software developed for online registration of birth and deaths certificates by unauthorized persons. RGI had requested the Haryana government to conduct a proper investigation into this matter. Information reveals, there are 24 registration centres for preparing birth and death certificates in Yamunanagar district alone and its ID is given to district health department administration which was hacked and misused for preparing fake certificates.
