SGPC to Reconsider Decision on Displaying Dr. Manmohan Singh’s Portrait in Central Sikh Museum

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to temporarily defer the matter of displaying a portrait of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in the Central Sikh Museum.

Providing information on the issue, SGPC Secretary Partap Singh stated that a recent meeting of the SGPC’s Executive Committee had approved the installation of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s portrait in the Central Sikh Museum. However, following objections raised by various groups, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami has ordered the matter to be put on hold for the time being.

He added that the SGPC respects the sentiments of the Sikh community and believes that a general consensus among Sikhs is essential on this matter. The SGPC Secretary further mentioned that the decision regarding the portrait will be reconsidered in a future meeting of the Executive Committee.

However, on May 13, during the Executive Meeting of SGPC  it was decided to display the Portraits of Giani Mohan Singh, former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, and three more Sikh personalities to be displayed in Central Sikh Museum.

Dhami had informed that  informed that the SGPC EC approved the display of portraits of Giani Mohan Singh (ex-head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib), former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, Baba Inderjit Singh Raqbewale, Baba Bishan Singh (Tarna Dal, Baba Bakala), and SGPC member Randhir Singh Cheema at the Central Sikh Museum.
