After Rathee’s brutal murder, now Abhay Chautala seeks Z plus security

Files a petition in the High Court

Chandigarh : INLD Ellenabad MLA Abhay Chautala has filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court requesting security cover of either Z plus or Z category for himself and his family members due to threats received. Chautala, through his counsel Sandeep Goyat, has outlined instances where unknown individuals have threatened him via WhatsApp calls and messages, indicating a serious concern for his safety.

The petition highlights an incident on July 17, 2023, during which threatening calls and messages were directed towards Chautala’s Personal Assistant (PA). Despite filing a complaint and the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) with the police, no arrests have been made, and the perpetrator remains unidentified. Additionally, it is mentioned that the police provided temporary security cover for only two days following the incident, which was then abruptly withdrawn without explanation or completion of the investigation.

Furthermore, Chautala’s petition draws attention to the recent killing of Nafe Singh Rathee, a former MLA, in February of the same year. Given these circumstances, especially with the upcoming General Elections in 2024 where Chautala and his family members will be actively involved as party leaders, the petition asserts that the risk of potential attacks cannot be disregarded.

In light of the threats and the precedent of violence against political figures, Chautala argues for the urgent need for Z plus or Z category security cover to ensure his and his family’s safety. The matter is pending hearing before the court, and Chautala awaits a decision on his request for enhanced security measures.
