Ambala scientific industry & country’s biggest wholesale cloth market suffer loss worth over Rs 350 crore

Ambala: After three days of continuous rain and flood situation, twin city Ambala, famous for the scientific instruments industry at Ambala Cantt as well as country’s biggest wholesale cloth market in Ambala city has suffered a loss worth over Rs 350 crore. The ‘Science City’ Ambala Cantt having more han 1000 industrial units located in industrial area as well as in thickly populated areas providing employment to nearly 20000 persons in which according to Saurabh  Nagpal  Vice President of Ambala Science Equipment Manufacturers Association loss worth over Rs 300 crore has been extimated so far due to water entered inside the factories between 6 to 10 feet height in as many as 106 MSME units not only damaging the  machinery but also raw and finished good stocks. Information reveals that the exact value of loss due to water will be estimated later on since there are still units flooded with water.

Similarly, wholesale cloth market at Ambala known as the biggest market in the country having hundreds of shops in three different complexes in Ambala City  has been adversely affected when water entered into shops as well as godown situated in basements are still filled up with water in-spite of all efforts by the government and large number of cloth packings as well as readymade garments are seen still flowing in water all around in the area. According to the wholesale Cloth Market Association president loss between Rs 100 to 150 crore has been estimated so far, but exact loss due to flood water will be calculated later on when the situation will be normal.

Ambala City once famous for manufacturing Mixi-juicers and its spares was earlier known as ‘Mixi Town’ having between 400-500 manufacturing units. but now left with only 40–50 units.  Ambala fis also amounts for cultivation of flowers in about 40-50 acres area, too, has suffered loss to the crop due to standing three to four feet water in fields. Nearly 30 families involved in this crop as well as other green vegetables crops were seen in the state of severe shock and told that they worked hard for months and now water still standing in their agriculture fields three to four feet level has completely destroyed the crop. They expressed worry over the unfortunate happening and how to provide both end meals to their families since they were dependent on this crop.
