Arrested 4 of a gang admitted 338 transformer thefts in 18 months

KARNAL (SATISH HANDA): Team of detective staff of police arrested four persons of a gang during police remand admitted had committed 338 transformer thefts in past 18 months in Karnal district, besides large number of transformer thefts in surrounding Kaithal, Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra districts. Arrested accused were identified as Karar Hissain resident of Daulatpur in Saharanpur district, Jaushan resident of Salarpur in Shamli district, Mastkan and his brother Shahrukh both residents of Dadri in Gautam Budh Nagar all from U.P

Police Commissioner Gaga Ram Poonia told that gang members used to locate the sites of transformers on their motorcycles during day time and conduct thefts at three to four places during night removing coils and other costly spare parts from installed transformers. During raid, police recovered 650 kg stolen coil and huge quantity of spare parts in their car when on way to sell to disposal goods dealer at Salempur, Delhi as told by them. Police seized tool kit and their vehicle along with stolen goods. Accused also admitted another three to four persons were also associated with them working in different area. They also admitted selling stolen goods to Delhi disposal goods dealer selling coils and spare parts at the rate ranging between Rs 400-500 per kg.

According to Inspector Harjinder Singh investigating the case, out of total number of 338 theft cases during year 2021-20 include 86 cases registered at Nigdu police station, 23 cases registered at Taraori police station,  60 cases registered at Nissing police station, 76 cases registered at Asandh police station, 25 cases registered at Munak police station, 19 cases registered at Sadar police station Karnal, 31 cases registered at Butana police station and 19 cases registered at Kunjpura police station. According to information, earlier detective staff police had busted a gang involved in over 250 transformer thefts in the year 2021.
