Srinagar: The cold wave intensified across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday as several parts of the Valley recorded sub-zero night temperatures, with Pulwama and Shopian emerging as the coldest inhabited areas.
As per data from Kashmir Weather, Pulwama recorded a low of –5.0°C, while Shopian dipped to –5.4°C, signalling a sharp drop in temperatures across south Kashmir.
Other key tourist and residential locations also witnessed a deep freeze. Pahalgam recorded –4.4°C, Gulmarg –1.2°C, Baramulla –4.3°C, and Pampore –4.5°C. The summer capital Srinagar settled at –3.1°C, marginally colder than Qazigund, which logged –3.0°C.
At Srinagar Airport, the minimum temperature touched –4.2°C, while Awantipora and Budgam recorded –3.8°C and –3.7°C respectively.
The higher reaches remained far colder, with Zojila Pass plummeting to –16.0°C, one of the lowest readings of the season.
In north Kashmir, Kupwara recorded –3.4°C, Bandipora –3.8°C, and Rafiabad –4.1°C, while Kokernag was relatively milder at –0.4°C. Sonamarg registered –3.8°C.
The cold wave extended to the Jammu region as well. Jammu city recorded 9.8°C, while Banihal reported –0.5°C. Bhaderwah stood at 0.4°C, Rajouri at 2.4°C, and Udhampur at 6.2°C.
In Ladakh, freezing conditions persisted with Leh recording –8.5°C, Kargil –8.8°C, and Nubra –6.6°C.
