First nut-bolt industry was set up at Rohtak in 1958 having exports to  52 countries

Rohtak : Nut-bolts industry of Rohtak is popular not only in the country but all over the world and nuts-bolt produced in the town are used in automobile, agriculture, railways, defence and even in missile testing sectors. The business in the town was adversely affected due to farmers’ agitation caused traffic blocks at the roads and borders for a long time as well as  frequent lockdown in the state due to epidemic outbreak when entire world  was in the grip of COVID-19 are some of the  factors when the business reduced more than 50% in past couple of years, which also adversely affected nut-bolt industry at Rohtak having between 3000-3500 manufacturing units supplying nuts and bolts to large number of auto spare parts traders as well as original equipment manufacturers in automobile sector in the country, apart from large number of countries in the world.

Pankaj Arora Secretary Laghu Udyog Bharti at Rohtak said that the manufacturing units in the town were either compelled to close down their shutters or cut down their production and turned sick when they suffered losses due to this in past couple of years. He said, manufacturers were not getting raw material usually procuring from Ludhiana, Delhi and Faridabad due to frequent traffic blocked at the borders or highways by protesting farmers as well as worldwide economic slow ,  they were able to manufacture only 45-50% of their production capacity. S.K. Munjal of Chamber of Commerce Automotive said, nearly 80-90% production of nut-bolts at Rohtak is being supplied to the  automobile sector including manufacturer of two-wheelers, cars, trucks and tractors but the manufacturers are now getting limited stocks due to uncertain orders since  the past two-three years. He said, moreover the manufacturers are unable to make supplies due to shortage of raw material as well as labour problems faced by them due to farmers’ agitation which continued for a long time. Munjal said, on-line delivery business of nut-bolts has also witnessed heavy drop and the manufacturers are getting hardly 30 to 40% orders.

Past scenario of Rohtak nut-bolt industry reveals that first nut-bolt industry was set up at Rohtak in 1958 with only 15 workers by late Bimal Persad Jain who was earlier running cycle business and Rohtak started manufacturing cycle parts which he used to procure from Ludhiana, presently his son Rajesh Jain looking after the business. Jain set up aonther unit in the name of LPS Company  at Hisar Road in 1966 to manufacture nut-bolts for automobiles and tractors which was the first big plant to manufacture nuts-sbolts in Northern India after Ludhiana, since then they never looked back. The unit started supplying nut-bolts to defence sector in 1975, presently supplying nut-bolts to  missile projects including Prithvi, Trishul, Agni, Brahm-ashtra and Akash besides supplying nut-bolts not only to domestic OEM manufacturers but also in other countries having a strength of nearly 1000 workers and annual turnover about 700 crores.
