Drug and arms smuggling from across the border is also a part of terrorism

Amritsar: Post  ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has demanded that drug and arms smuggling from across the border should also be considered as a part of terrorism. Efforts should also be made to stop it.

Aujla has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that drug and arms smuggling from across the border is continuing in the border areas of Amritsar district of Punjab.

More than two lakh people have lost their lives so far due to the drug menace spreading in this region. The shocking thing is that more than 90% of the deceased are from the Sikh community, which shows the disproportionate impact of this crisis on the people of Punjab. This is a continuous and deliberate attack on the youth, families and future of our state.

He said that the government of the country has announced that terrorism will now be considered a sign of war, so at such a time, smuggling on the border should also come under terrorism. This is no less than a terrorist act, and in every sense, it is an act of war. He said that today, despite the availability of better technology, drones are coming to our territory with thousands of kilograms of drugs and dangerous weapons under our nose. A large part of the young generation is now trying to leave India, as they are troubled by the increasing drug addiction and lack of security. Even tourists coming to Punjab are falling prey to this growing narco-terrorism network. It is equally worrying that there are strong indications of involvement or connivance of some officials, bureaucrats and elements within the system, who are making these smuggling operations possible.

Aujla said that this letter is not just an appeal – it is a demand from the people of the border area. Cross-border drug and arms smuggling should be declared a terrorist act.
