Yamunanagar: Due to heavy rains in the area, water entered the warehouse of Saraswati Sugar Mill in the heart of town, due to which about 80 thousand quintals of sugar in the warehouse got spoiled, besides machinery installed inside the mill was also damaged. The mill administration said that the overflow of the drain packed with garbage near the mill was the prime reason due to which the flow of water was obstructed and entered inside the sugar mill. At present, the work of removing sugar from the warehouse is going on and the loss is estimated to be in crores. According to mill management, two lakh twenty thousand quintals of sugar was stored in the warehouse, out of which more than 80 thousand quintals of sugar got spoiled due to four feet of water in the warehouse.

The sugar mill administration alleges that water has entered the warehouses due to the overflow of the drain passing nearby, moreover there is also a construction of the drain is going on, due to which the flow of water has been obstructed. Saraswati Sugar Mill Chief Executive Officer SK Sachdeva said that there are sugar warehouses near Yamuna Syndicate, and a drain passes near the warehouses. The drain overflowed due to heavy rain late at night. He said drainage was also obstructed due to construction on the drain as a result, water started accumulating and entered the warehouses from under the shutters and about four to five feet of water accumulated inside. As soon as the administration got information about this, arrangements were made to drain out the water immediately. “Two pumps kept running from morning to evening to drain out the water,” Sachdeva said.

The drain has overflowed due to the garbage being filled in it. Even till morning, a huge amount of garbage was seen scattered here, whereas the contractor is claiming that all the drains of the Municipal Corporation have been cleaned thoroughly. According to the mill administration, sugar gets spoiled immediately after coming in contact with water. The work of lifting sugar from the warehouse is still going on. They alleged, the drain has overflowed due to the garbage being filled in it, even till morning, a huge amount of garbage was seen scattered here, whereas the contractor is claiming that all the drains of the Municipal Corporation have been cleaned. According to the mill administration, sugar gets spoiled immediately after coming in contact with water. The work of lifting sugar from the warehouse is going on. The said, the figure of loss may increase even more.
