Panipat handloom industry facing nearly 72% drop in exports

Panipat: The Chairman of Haryana Chamber of commerce & Industry Vinod Dhamija also an exporter told The Financial World that since past three years world famous Panipat textile and handloom induetry is facing severe crisis for one reason or the other adversely affected exports to nearly 23 countries across the world due to spread of epidemic outbreak Kovid in the country as well as acroos the world  followed by prolognd Ukrain- Russia war and presently due to fast rising prices of cotton thread increased from Rs 160 to Rs  330 per kg and yarn the price inceased from Rs 120 to Rs 190 per kg as well as heavy increase in freights as a result the production cost of products have drastically increased. by 15-18% besides hike in shipment expenses during export.
Dhamija told that there are over 450 manufacturing units at Panipat producing handloom products, carpets, blankets, bed sheets and curtain cloth having annual turnover more than Rs 45000 crore which included over Rs 20000 crore exports to large number of coutries across the world including USA, Russia,Italy, Germany and almost every European as well as Asian country. He said that the exports have been reduced to only 27-28% at present due to heavy slump in past couple of years and the manufacturers at Panipat are now dependent only on domestic sale as such several manufacturing units as well as small scale units working for big manufacturers have either become sick or closed down. Dhamija said, in case the situation does not improve further for another 4-5 years the textile industry in the town will further collapse. He said, Panipat textile and handloom industry needs immediate subsidies as well as incentives provided by the government to remain alive.
In a recent  meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, the entrepreneurs of textile & handloom industry Panipat had submitted a memorandum demanding 11 points in support of industry which included two prominent projects – installation of a common boiler  and a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) plant to make available treated water to the industry. Bhim Rana, President of Panipat Dyers Association told that Panipat industry have requirement of nearly 25 crore liter water every day and there is an immediate need for ZLD plant which costs nearly Rs 1800 crore. He said that Haryana state government had approved installation of this plant in 2017 on the terms that Union government will bear 50% cost on this project and the remaining 50% amount towards the cost will be shared between the Haryana state government and the industry entrepreneurs in the town but in-spite of approval of this project the same is hanging in files without any action since past over five years. Bhim Rana said that we are prepared to bear the cost of water as discussed.
